YOLANDA'S SPA TOUR

DAY 1: YANGON/arrival

Mingalabar, translates to welcome in Yangon!  We suggest you to arrive via Air Asia which has 3 flights daily. An English speaking guide and a car will pick you up and bring you to your hotel to enjoy an overnight rest in Yangon - www.kandawgyipalace-hotel.com (dlx lake view)

Note:

  • If you arrive in the morning, I personally would suggest going to see the beautiful Shwedagon Pagoda at night before dinner. This massive bell-shaped stupa rises nearly 100 meters above its hilltop surroundings. Wander through this magnificent structure and its courtyards, stupas, bells, Temples, and Buddha images, and see religious and secular visitors from all parts of the globe. The vibe at the at night is more romantic and calm as there are less tourists about and you get to see the Pagoda shine against the dark night sky. Shwedagon has become the symbol of Myanmar. This can then be followed by drinks at either Escape gastro bar which is a trendy place with the best cocktails in town, or you can go to 50th street bar and grill which is a hangout spot for the expats in town.

When you return to your room you can have your masseuse come into your room for a full body massage or pre chosen treatment before bed.

DAY 2: YANGON (B)

After breakfast  your guide and driver will pick you up to go to the sprawling Bogyoket Market that is filled with Burmese artifacts, traditional garments, and jewelry including the famous Burmese pigeon blood rubies.

Notes:

  • If you didn’t see the Shwedagon pagoda the night before, this will be done before breakfast, where you mostly meet Buddhist devotes paying homage before they start their work.

  • If the Bogyoket Market is closed (which is on Mondays) then you can visit an old friend’s famous antique store followed by lunch at The Governer’s residence (formally known as the Pansea hotel). Then on the way to the airport you can stop by at another boutique that sells fun Burmese artifacts constructed by a French designer and an old family friend.

After lunch you will drive to the famous Reclining Buddha followed by a visit to the best spa in town called Inya Day spa where we offer a jet lag revitalizer package! Once you are rejuvenated and brought back to your hotel, your driver will pick you up and take you to Le Planteur for a French fine dining experience in the heart of Yangon. Overnight -  www.kandawgyipalace-hotel.com (dlx lake view)

DAY 3: YANGON - HEHO - INLE LAKE (B)

After breakfast you will be brought straight to the airport where you will embark to your first destination situated in the north, Heho. Upon arrival I usually go to the road opposite the airport to one of the “pop up style” restaurants to eat a bowl of traditional shan noodles which I would highly recommend to everyone, you might even get a quick back massage if you are lucky! Then you will drive to NyaungShwe, a town at the north of Inle Lake from where you will take your Inthar style motorized longtail boat and enjoy an excursion on Inle Lake (25 km) famous for its unique one-leg rowers, a site that has to be seen. You will enjoy seeing floating gardens, local methods of fishing and village life. The Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda area houses five sacred, shapeless Buddha images, contorted (misshapen)  because of the quantity of gold leafs applied by believers. These Buddha images are reported to have come here in the 12th Century. You will then continue your journey on water and head over to your hotel that is also built at the lake! Before returning to you hotel proceed to the silk weaving village of In Phaw Khon and visit Nga Phe Chaung (the biggest and oldest monastery around Inle Lake).  You will spend the evening and overnight at the Inle Lake. Overnight - www.pristinelotus.com (Floating Duplex)

DAY 5: INLE LAKE - COOKING CLASS - INDEIN (B/L)

It’s cooking time for Shan/Intha Cuisine

After breakfast your Shan cook will escort you to the market giving you a tour from the local perspective. Start with a thorough tour of the market before you go to you visit your cooks home where all the chopping, mixing ingredients and cooking will take place to prepare lunch.  The real excitement is you will cook yourselves.  And don’t be surprised when you have a dozen different dishes on the table.  After lunch board your motorized longtail boat for a half day excursion to Indein to see the ancient Bagan + Shan style pagodas, built during Bagan period, passing the beautiful scenery with tall grasses and little water steps. The pagoda ruins, hidden in the bushes will give you an impression dating back to the 12th century. Before returning to your hotel proceed to the silk weaving village of In PhawKhon and visit NgaPhe Chaung (the biggest and oldest monastery around Inle Lake).  The longtail boat will then take you back to your hotel where you will have the rest of your afternoon for your spa treatments. Overnight - www.pristinelotus.com (Floating Duplex)

DAY 6:  INLE LAKE – HEHO – MDL

Today will be an early morning start with a check out after breakfast, you will start of by visiting the silk weaving village in PhawKhon where you will be given a chance to do a little shopping as well! You will then be brought back to land and drive to NyaungShwe where you will have lunch at View point which is a lovely restaurant owned by a French chef. After this the last of the sightseeing will bring youto visit the 150 year oldShwe Yan Pyay Monastery. This happens to be the favorite spot of professional photographers worldwide due to its unusual oval shaped windows. From there you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Mandalay!

Upon your arrival in Mandalay you will be taken to your hotel, the beautiful Mandalay Hill Resort where you will have your even spa session in probably what happens to be my favorite spa in the country.

Overnight - www.mandalayhillresorthotel.com (Sup room)

DAY 7:  MANDALAY – BAGAN

After breakfast and another early checkout (just to save you time!) you will begin your half day excursion. Mandalay is a bustling city and nearby the ruby, gold and jade mines. This has allowed the jade industry to attract Chinese, Indian and Thai wholesalers. Visit the jade market (the busiest time in the morning), discovering white, yellow and green jade. This precious gem can be found in all forms, from its raw, unpolished state to beautiful handcrafted jewelry.  Watch howthe craftsman cut and polish the stones.  Part of the fun for many is an opportunity to use bargaining skills with sellers. Have a light lunch snack at one of the surrounding tea shops and drink green tea and try some local snacks. Then continue to the Maha Muni Pagoda, Mandalay's most important religious site. The main Buddha image of 3.5 meters is TOTALLY coated with gold leaves applied by the local pilgrims. Over the years, the applied gold leaf has changed the once slim Buddha into a well-fed Buddha! After exploring the alleys which are full of local shops, it is impossible to  avoidvisiting the craftsmen who manufacture the gold leaf. After this you will have lunch and then head straight over to the airport and go to my favorite and most magical town, Bagan.

Once you land in Bagan you will be taken to your hotel where you can have a sundowner and before dinner have a 45 minute Therapeutic massage to revive your body! Overnight - www.tharabargate.com (dlx room)

DAY 8:  BAGAN

Note:

  • You have an option to have a very early morning start to go on a hot air balloon ride to see the thousands of temples from above at sunrise.

Bagan has over 2,000 temples and pagodas of various sizes in varying states of repair and spread across the plain. ShwezigonPagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine. Then the Gubyaukgyi  Temple, with exquisite murals of Jataka scenes and Ananda Temple with four huge standing Buddha images.  There are also numerous stone carved seated figures and niches around the galleried interior. In the afternoon visit some less visited temples of Bagan. Enjoy the sunset from the Teak Tower of Bagan. There is a planned cultural show  to be enjoyed during your dinner.
